Once demolished the bricks are taken to a waste transfer station on site - 97% are re-used as infill
With the range of facilities being built on each garrison from single living quarters to new offices and diners there will be over 200 separate construction sites – equivalent to an area twice the size of Hyde Park, using enough bricks to reach from London to Monte Carlo, and over 5,250 tonnes of mortar – more than the weight of 750 elephants!
So far over 206 buildings have been demolished with a further 224 due to come down over the next seven years. Once demolished the bricks and other recyclables are taken to a waste transfer station located on site, from which 97% of the demolition waste is re-used onsite.
