Today approximately 12-16 weeks is all it takes to build one of the new single living accommodation blocks. The very first of these was built back in 2004, before the contract started. Erected between September and December 2004 the Junior Ranks Single Living Accommodation (JRSLA) has been home to 22 Engineer Regiment since January 2005.
As the construction programme progresses more soldiers are moving into their brand new living accommodation. With on average, one new building being completed and handed into service each week, more and more soldiers are benefiting from new, modern living and working environments being delivered under Project Allenby/Connaught – making their everyday working and social life better.
So far more than 7,700 soldiers have moved into new living accommodation including:
Over the course of the construction programme which lasts for a total of eight years, 11,500 new en-suite single rooms – that’s 155 new JRSLAs – will be built across the garrisons of Aldershot and Salisbury Plain.
These buildings are then handed over to Aspire Defence Services Ltd for the remainder of the 35 year contract. Aspire Defence maintains and supports them from fitting them out with furniture to carrying out the everyday repairs and supply of utilities.
