It takes 12-16 weeks to build one of the new single soldier accommodation blocks. The short time frame is possible because we use modular units which are manufactured off site as individual pods. These pods include bedrooms, with en-suite shower rooms, a communal lounge, utility room, storage areas, kitchen and bathroom. Many hotels and student halls of residence are built in the same way.

The improvements being made to the garrisons include the provision of extensive leisure facilities for communal areas, modern retail outlets, sports and recreational facilities, on site restaurants (or diners), pubs and everything necessary for a modern ‘village’ community.

Working with our key delivery partners Aspire Defence is providing the Army with a wide range of resources such as media centres, gyms, sports and leisure facilities and will be providing first class services throughout the 35 years of the contract (which began in 2006).

Services provided include:

• A 24 hour help desk on each garrison
• Transport maintenance and management
• Catering
• Mess management
• Housekeeping
• Grounds maintenance
• Stores
• Utilities (electric, gas and water)
• Building maintenance and repairs service

Facilities management teams are based at the four garrisons. The highest priority for them is to deliver a consistently high quality service to our customer, whether they are a soldier living in garrison accommodation, families using leisure facilities or personnel working on the garrisons.
