Corus Living Solutions, a volumetric modular building system supplier, is sub-contracted for the design, supply and erection of fully factory fitted-out steel-framed accommodation modules for Project Allenby/Connaught managed by Aspire Defence. Corus will supply in total over one hundred and fifty-five buildings between 2006 and 2012 across six sites. The company is part of the Tata Steel Group, the world's fifth largest steel producer.
Each building is designed 3-storey high and has fifty-one room modules. It comprises of 36 en-suite bedroom Junior Ranks Single Living Accommodation flats, 6 utility rooms, 6 communal rooms and 3 baggage rooms with M&E functionality to the service riser. In addition, three staircase modules are supplied by Bourne Steel, of Poole. The ‘cuboid’ formed by the erected finished room modules is constructed by Corus, with the traditional roof and a variety of exterior brick and render finishes provided by others. Erection time on site has been reduced from 14 to 4 days since first delivery in Oct 2006.
All finished modules are manufactured at Corus’ site in Shotton, North Wales on a £5m semi-automated line with an installed capacity for 4500 units per annum. Corus deploys advanced manufacturing assembly line philosophy and continuous improvement techniques to deliver high dimensional and finish qualities, economy of scale and project savings. The Corus Health & Safety philosophy enables the business to achieve a high level of performance both in its factory and its site operations.
Corus and Aspire signed a partnering charter in July 2005 and are committed to a long-term relationship involving the whole supply chain of material and product suppliers.
