On graduating from The University of Glamorgan in 1996, Andy began work with Christiani and Nielsen as a site engineer progressing to Site Agent where he gained extensive and valuable experience specialising in large fast track projects. On leaving Christiani and Nielsen in 2000 he joined Carillion Building as Assistant Project manager for the construction of the £100m Great Western Hospital PFI Project in Swindon and subsequently as Project Director for the Brunel Treatment Centre on the site of the Great Western Hospital. Both were successfully handed over on time and to budget and enabled him to further develop his skill base in the delivery of large complex projects.
Between 2005 and 2008 Andy was the Operations Director for Carillion Building in Wales and more recently for Major projects in the South West and Wales with responsibility and accountability for the operational leadership and delivery of live projects in the region ensuring successful delivery of these projects in line with business plan objectives and including effective management of Health and Safety, procurement, programme, resources, contract and quality.
In parallel with this aspect of the role he had responsibility for developing and maintaining relationships with a number of emerging and mature clients and securing work through competitively tendered and negotiated procurement routes. This enabled Andy to develop a sound understanding of the bidding process including negotiations and to gain an excellent understanding of the commercial and strategic planning aspects of the business and also the drivers of a number of diverse clients.
In December 2008, Andy was appointed Managing Director of the Aspire Defence Capital Works business which is part of Project Allenby/Connaught, the largest infrastructure PFI contract ever awarded by the MoD with an overall contract value of £8billion. Andy is responsible for the delivery of £1.3billion of construction work over an eight year period that includes new single living accommodation, technical buildings, offices and dining facilities across four garrison sites.
