Project Allenby/Connaught scooped a major award at the annual Construction Industry Awards held last night in London. The awards, now in their thirteenth year, are sponsored by Contract Journal and recognise outstanding business performance throughout the construction industry.

At the awards ceremony hosted by Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis, the Project won the environmental leadership award. This award recognises companies who have made a step change in their approach to construction through a product, process, innovation, design solution or project, or combination of these.  Project Allenby/Connaught, delivered on behalf of the MoD by Aspire Defence, a joint venture between Carillion and KBR, provided enough evidence to win the award by showing how these changes have made a difference in practice to beat stiff competition from Aggregate Industries, Birmingham Construction Partnership, British Gypsum and Marshalls. 

Receiving this award, Lorna Russell, environmental manager for Aspire Defence Capital Works said, “Winning the award against such strong competition gives the whole team a real sense of satisfaction by being recognised as an environmental leader and has shown how important sustainability is to Aspire.  This is a joint achievement and reflects the commitment to sustainability as well as the excellent working relationship between Aspire and the MoD.

This award is a reflection of all of the hard work which everyone on the Project has put in over the past two years – well done.”
