Aspire Defence Capital Works (ADCW) has received three Gold and two Bronze awards through the Considerate Constructors Scheme’s National Site Awards along with two runners-up for Most Considerate Site. This tremendous achievement marks the pinnacle of seven years of construction during which ADCW has accumulated 21 Bronze and Silver awards through this prestigious Scheme.
ADCW, a joint venture between Carillion and KBR, is delivering the eight-year construction programme for the MOD’s strategically important Project Allenby/Connaught, the largest infrastructure PFI ever let. Alongside the delivery of a raft of services throughout this 35-year contract, four Army Garrisons across the Salisbury Plain and at Aldershot have been transformed. With little more than a year left of construction, ADCW’s sites at Aldershot, Larkhill and Warminster were awarded Gold with two national runners-up awards for Most Considerate Site also being awarded to Aldershot and Warminster.
These annual national site awards celebrate the UK's most considerate construction sites from the previous year and recognise the exceptional standards of consideration shown by registered sites towards their local neighbourhoods and the general public, the workforce and the environment. This year, the Scheme presented 441 Bronze, 204 Silver and 77 Gold Awards. From the Gold Award winning sites, the very highest performing were put forward for the prestigious title of Most Considerate Site.
Commenting on this year's awards, Scheme Chairman David Watson said, “Once again even throughout these tough times for our industry, many sites have excelled in not only maintaining standards, but surpassing what has been achieved in previous years. The award ceremonies are an excellent showcase for these sites, and give the industry the opportunity to reward those site teams that have gone that extra mile. I wish to congratulate all those who have received an award.”
Phil Northfield, Managing Director for Aspire Defence Capital Works said, “Over seven years, we have worked over 19 million man-hours and have achieved one of the lowest accident rates (AFR) in the industry at 0.05.
We have consistently delivered against an ambitious construction programme for our MOD client to benefit our customers, the soldiers themselves. By recycling and reusing around 97% of construction waste on the garrisons, we have reduced the number of lorry movements on and off site thereby minimising disruption to the soldiers’ daily working lives as well as to our civilian neighbours.
We have undertaken a number of projects within our local communities over the recent past, such as litter picks, school garden makeovers, a scout hut refurbishment, building wildlife rafts, repairing canal banks, sponsoring wildlife information boards, improving facilities for Warminster’s Riding for the Disabled, work for the Vine Day Centre at Aldershot (a charity that supports homeless and vulnerable adults) and numerous fundraising activities to help more local and military charities. I am extremely proud of all the Aspire achievements over the last seven years and to finally be awarded Gold by the Considerate Constructors Scheme is especially pleasing this year.”
