Aspire Defence Capital Works (ADCW) held its annual golf day at the Andover Golf Club recently and raised £7,825 for their nominated charity, Down Syndrome Education International.
ADCW and almost forty of its contractors who work together on Project Allenby/Connaught, joined forces to make the day a resounding success – with companies sponsoring the holes in order to raise as much money as possible for the charity.
As well as huge thanks for the donations from each of the contractors who took part, special mentions for going above and beyond the call of duty go to Barry Dudley from EDF and Rob Luther, Project Manager for Dean & Dyball.
Barry rallied his work colleagues to raise the sponsorship for the first hole and also won ‘golfer of the year’, showing he is not only generous but also handy with a set of clubs too!
Rob designed, patented and constructed his own prototype ‘beer buggy’ and then pushed the buggy around the golf course dispensing alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for the bargain price of £10 per drink, raising a phenomenal £525 in the process! By the end of a successful day’s golf, a total of £7,825 had been raised through the sponsorship and selling of refreshments.
Commenting on the day, Ronan Smith, Senior Quantity Surveyor from Aspire Defence Capital Works, whose son Fergus attends Down Syndrome Education International said, “The total raised is a truly astounding figure. It shows that even in this tough economic climate, these contractors are still willing to donate to a worthy cause. To get forty sponsors is a great testament to the type of contractor we have working with us. Examples such as Rob’s and Barry’s exceptional efforts illustrate this statement even further”.

Stacey Hunt, Fundraising Manager from Down Syndrome Education International added, "On behalf of everyone at Down Syndrome Education International, I would like to thank all of those involved in raising money through the Aspire Defence Capital Works’ charity golf day. As a charity, we depend on the generosity of individuals and companies to raise vital funds for our work. The total of £7,825 is simply astonishing, and will act as a big push in our efforts to improve education for children with Down syndrome not only in the UK but across the world. We are incredibly grateful, and hope everyone enjoyed the day!”
Huge thanks go to the following subcontractors for their generosity:
